Irritable Bowel Syndrome
Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) is a common gastrointestinal disorder
that sometimes causes significant discomfort even though it is not a
serious threat. Typical symptoms include abdominal bloating and
soreness, gas and altering diarrhea and constipation. People with
Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) are more likely than others to have
backaches, fatigue and several other seemingly unrelated problems.
The cause of Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) is unknown. Certain foods
have been found to aggravate the condition. Limiting dairy products
(lactose), beans, as well as foods containing caffeine, fructose or
sorbitol may reduce symptoms. Blood tests can be done to try to uncover
the food sensitivities associated with Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS),
but are not always effective. The only practical way to evaluate which
foods might trigger IBS symptoms is to avoid the foods and then
reintroduce them. It is best to do this with the guidance of a
healthcare practitioner.
IBS sufferers have increased sensitivity to rectal pain that has been
linked to psychological factors. Stress is known to increase symptoms of
Irritable Bowel Syndrome. Using stress management skills, hypnosis and
supplements to reduce stress has consistently relieved symptoms of
Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) in some people.
Traditional Chinese Medicine which uses acupuncture, Chinese herbal
therapies and Chinese body therapies has been reported to be helpful in
the treatment of Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS).
Various herbal and vitamin products may be helpful in reducing the
